Imagine you have a jar, big rocks, pebbles, sand, and water. The jar represents your life. The big rocks are the most important things – your family, health, and passions. Pebbles, like your job, house, and car, are other things that matter. The sand is everything else, the small stuff.
If you put sand or water into the jar first, there’s no room for rocks or pebbles. This is like spending all your time and energy on the small stuff and not having time for what’s truly important.
But if you put the big rocks in first, then the pebbles, and finally the sand, everything fits into the jar. The same goes for life. If you spend time on what’s essential, the rest finds its place. This story illustrates the importance of prioritizing your life’s big, meaningful tasks before filling up your schedule with lesser things.

Quote:
“Most people feel best about their work the week before their vacation, but it’s not because of the vacation itself. What do you do the last week before you leave on a big trip? You clean up, close up, clarify, and renegotiate all your agreements with yourself and others. I just suggest that you do this weekly instead of yearly.”
– David Allen
